Cura de heridas
La mayoría de nosotros pensamos que las heridas ocurren a partir de accidentes. Pero las incisiones quirúrgicas limpias también se consideran heridas. También son heridas los lugares del cuerpo por donde se introducen tubos o catéteres en el cuerpo. La piel es el órgano más grande de nuestro cuerpo y ayuda a protegernos de los gérmenes (bacterias, hongos y virus) que viven sobre ella. Por lo tanto, cualquier cosa que rompa la piel es una herida porque, cuando se abre la piel, existe el riesgo de que entren gérmenes en el cuerpo y causen infecciones.
Cuanto más profunda, más grande o más sucia sea una herida, más cuidados necesitará. Por eso, equipos de médicos y de enfermeros especialmente formados y con experiencia en el cuidado de heridas trabajan conjuntamente para supervisar y tratar las heridas graves.
