La elefantiasis es una enfermedad crónica caracterizada por una hinchazón excesiva y deformante de partes específicas del cuerpo, principalmente las extremidades inferiores, aunque también puede afectar los genitales y otras áreas. Esta patología surge debido a una obstrucción grave y prolongada del sistema linfático, que es responsable de drenar el exceso de líquido tisular y mantener el equilibrio del sistema inmunológico local. Cuando este sistema falla, la linfa se acumula en los tejidos, causando inflamación crónica, engrosamiento, endurecimiento de la piel y fibrosis. El término "elefantiasis" proviene del aspecto que adquiere la piel, que recuerda al grueso y rugoso cuero de un elefante.
Las contusiones son lesiones comunes que ocurren cuando el tejido blando del cuerpo sufre un impacto directo. Estas lesiones no rompen la piel, pero pueden causar daño a los vasos sanguíneos debajo de ella. Las contusiones se manifiestan como áreas de decoloración debido a la acumulación de sangre y líquidos en el tejido afectado. Pueden afectar diferentes partes del cuerpo, incluyendo la piel, los músculos y los huesos.
Una lesión de tobillo es una lesión que se produce cuando te doblas, tuerces o giras el tobillo de una forma extraña. Esto puede estirar o desgarrar las bandas resistentes de tejido (ligamentos) que ayudan a mantener los huesos del tobillo unidos. Los ligamentos ayudan a estabilizar las articulaciones evitando el movimiento excesivo. El lesión de tobillo se produce cuando se fuerzan los ligamentos más allá de su amplitud normal de movimiento.
Un esguince de tobillo puede ocurrir al meter sin querer el pie dentro de un hoyo, cuando un tobillo gira hacia un lado mientras se camina o se corre o, simplemente, al apoyar mal el pie.
