Un derrame cerebral ocurre cuando el flujo de sangre a una parte del cerebro está interrumpido por la presencia de un vaso sanguíneo que está bloqueado o roto. Las células del cerebro que no reciben un suministro constante de sangre oxigenada pueden morir, causando daño permanente al cerebro.
La mayoría de los ataques cardíacos son provocados por un coágulo que bloquea una de las arterias coronarias. Las arterias coronarias llevan sangre y oxígeno al corazón.
