El varicocele es una dilatación anormal de las venas del plexo pampiniforme en el escroto, responsables de drenar la sangre del testículo. Esta condición es similar a las varices que pueden formarse en las piernas y afecta principalmente a los hombres jóvenes, siendo una causa frecuente de infertilidad masculina. Se presenta más a menudo en el lado izquierdo debido a diferencias anatómicas en el drenaje venoso de esa área.
La orquitis es la infección de uno o de los dos testículos, más frecuente es que se desarrolle en un testículo. De hecho, en el caso de la orquitis viral más frecuente, que es la producida por el virus de las paperas, en el 70% de los casos afecta solo a uno de ellos. La orquitis causa, entre otros síntomas, dolor e inflamación, aunque pueden mitigarse con tratamiento farmacológico. La mayoría de los hombres se recupera por completo, aunque, en algunos casos, puede llegar a provocar problemas de fertilidad.
